In a shocking series of events, a 36-year-old man, Gavin Plumb from Harlow’s Potters Field, has been indicted over an alleged conspiracy to abduct and assassinate popular TV presenter Holly Willoughby. Plumb stands accused of inciting kidnapping and solicitation to commit murder. The charges entail persuading someone to travel to the UK to execute the plot and assembling a kidnap and restraint kit.

Plumb faced his preliminary hearing at Chelmsford Magistrates Court last Friday where he was detained in custody. This follows his arrest on Wednesday, 4th October. Detective Superintendent Rob Kirby highlighted the swift nature of this investigation, with multiple officers and national partners working relentlessly overnight to secure these charges. He also underscored the importance of safeguarding any victim and promised continued prioritization of this aspect in collaboration with the Metropolitan Police Service as the investigation moves forward.

The management of This Morning was informed about the alleged scheme on Thursday morning. Consequently, Willoughby decided to withdraw her appearance shortly before she was scheduled to go live on air, as reported by The Sun.

ITV expressed their shock at the revelation and pledged their full support for the presenter by arranging round-the-clock security in addition to police protection. An ITV spokesperson shared that everyone at This Morning and ITV are deeply shaken by this news and are extending all possible support to Holly and her family during this distressing period.

On Friday’s broadcast of This Morning, Dermot O’Leary didn’t delve into details but confirmed Plumb’s arrest over the alleged kidnap plot, stating that charges had been pressed by Essex Police. Alison Hammond, co-presenter on the show, conveyed their collective shock at the news while sending love and warm wishes to Holly and her family.

Prime Minister Rishi Sunak also expressed his concern for Willoughby during his appearance on This Morning on Friday. He said he was saddened to hear about the incident and extended his best wishes to her.
