Prominent political activist Laurence Fox has been apprehended under suspicions of conspiring to criminally damage Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) cameras. This news arrives in conjunction with the announcement that GB News has terminated its employment contract with Fox subsequent to internal investigations concerning his remarks about female journalist Ava Evans on Dan Wootton Tonight.

The channel revealed that the inquiry into Wootton’s conduct is ongoing, and has also dismissed another host, Calvin Robinson. Fox, who is the leader of the Reclaim Party, revealed via a social media video earlier Wednesday that police officers were searching his home. The party made an announcement on X, formerly Twitter, just before 10:45 am, stating “Live now @LozzaFox is having his house searched by the police”. The message was accompanied by a video of Fox on his couch apparently surrounded by police officers.

In another video shared on X, Fox expresses his criticism against the movement towards a “surveillance state”. As news of Fox’s arrest became public, media watchdog Ofcom confirmed it had received almost 9,000 complaints about the GB News programme.

On Tuesday, Fox had expressed his support for ULEZ Blade Runners who have been dismantling cameras. He declared in a video which he shared on social media “I encourage them to tear down every single camera there is,” and further stated that he would be joining them in this endeavor “because I’m one of those people that puts my money where my mouth is…I will be out there with my angle grinder.” He went on to urge the mass removal of the surveillance state and acknowledged being open to arrest for these actions.

A police spokesperson confirming the arrest stated “On Wednesday 4 October officers arrested a 45-year-old man on suspicion of conspiring to commit criminal damage to ULEZ cameras and encouraging or assisting offences to be committed.” The suspect was arrested in Stockwell and remains in custody at a south London police station.
