Mark your calendars, fans of “The Crown”. Netflix has announced the dates for the highly anticipated final season of their hit show. The sixth season of the popular royal series will be released in two parts, with the first half premiering on November 16th and the second part available from December 14th. The announcement was made on X, previously known as Twitter, where Netflix also shared insights from actresses who have played the queen throughout the series.

The series, which is a fictionalised portrayal of real historical events and the lives of late Queen Elizabeth II and other senior royals, serves as a platform for a closer look at the sacrifices made by these figures. In a post captioned “It is not a choice. It is a duty”, actresses shared their reflections on playing Queen Elizabeth. Claire Foy, who portrayed her at the start of her historic 70-year reign, refers to ‘The Crown’ as a “symbol of permanence”. Olivia Coleman, who depicted her during Margaret Thatcher’s premiership and won a Golden Globe for her performance, spoke about the sacrifices made by the Queen.

Imelda Staunton, who plays Queen Elizabeth in her later years, pondered on what she had to give up for her role as monarch. “But what about the life I put aside? The woman I put aside,” she said.

Additionally, X also featured an image of Princess Diana played by Elizabeth Debicki sitting on a diving board on Mohammed Al Fayed’s private yacht while vacationing with Dodi Al Fayed. The image captures Diana’s life post-divorce from King Charles (played by Dominic West) after her infamous Panorama interview with journalist Martin Bashir.

The final season will cover events up to Princess Diana’s death in Paris in August 1997. However, Netflix confirmed earlier this year that it would not depict the car crash that resulted in her death. The upcoming episodes will also feature Sir Tony Blair’s leadership and the budding romance between Prince William and Kate Middleton, portrayed by Ed McVey and Meg Bellamy respectively.

“As The Crown enters a new decade, Prince William starts at university in St Andrew’s, determined to lead as normal a life as possible while he still can,” the show description reads. “Also beginning life as a university student is Kate Middleton from Berkshire. As the pair meet for the first time on campus, a new romance and a new future for The Crown begins.”

Fans are eagerly waiting to see how these events will be brought to life in this final season of one of Netflix’s most popular shows.
