Beloved television presenter Holly Willoughby has declared that she will not return to her role on the popular daytime show, This Morning. After a 14-year tenure, she made her announcement with a heartfelt statement expressing her gratitude to all who have been part of her journey.

She expressed her appreciation for every individual who has contributed to the show during her time as a host. In her message, she thanked them saying “This is such a difficult goodbye, you are incredible and I forever will be proud of what we’ve done together.” She also extended her gratitude towards ITV for their support throughout her time there.

Her warm words were also directed to the guests who have shared the sofa with her over the years, and most importantly, to the dedicated viewers of the show. She mentioned how their loyalty and support had made each day worthwhile.

Willoughby referenced an old adage by Richard and Judy, former hosts of This Morning, stating that they were merely caretakers of the show which truly belonged to the viewers. Although it was an honour for her to be part of its story, she felt it was time to make this decision for herself and her family.

Kevin Lygo, managing director of media and entertainment at ITV, expressed his sadness about Willoughby’s departure. He praised her as one of UK’s most respected broadcasters who held a special place in viewers’ hearts. He admired how she infused warmth, energy, humour and fun into one of the country’s much-loved daytime shows. Despite her departure from This Morning, Lygo reassured that ITV looked forward to working with Willoughby in future endeavours.

Colleagues from This Morning shared their sentiments on social media in response to Willoughby’s announcement. Alison Hammond called it a sad day while Dermot O’Leary conveyed his respect and love for Willoughby and her family.

Guest hosts Rochelle Humes and stand-in presenter Kate Thornton both expressed their sadness and sent their love. Clodagh McKenna, a chef on the show, praised Willoughby for her positivity both on-screen and off-screen. Alice Beer, the show’s consumer editor, wished her well with love and light.

Pop duo Jedward also chimed in, stating the show will not be the same without Willoughby. Despite her departure from This Morning, Willoughby’s impact on the show and its viewers is undoubtedly significant and will be remembered fondly.
