Acclaimed stand-up comedian and radio personality Matt Forde recently revealed that he would be going through surgery for a spine tumour. The 40-year-old entertainer, known for hosting the Rock ‘N’ Roll Football on Absolute Radio and The Political Party podcast, announced his diagnosis via social media, expressing his gratitude for the outpouring of supportive messages.

Forde, who has been experiencing severe sciatica due to the tumour, will be taking some time off to recover post-surgery. He shared this news on X, a social media platform formerly known as Twitter, adding light-heartedly that he will record some shows in advance to fill his absence. Expressing optimism about his prognosis, Forde, an avid Nottingham Forest fan, quoted the team’s manager Steve Cooper saying he’ll “trust the process”.

Appearing on Absolute Radio over the weekend, Forde compared his impending treatment to a footballer recovering from an injury. He assured listeners that while he would be taking a break to address this health issue, he would return a few weeks later.

Forde’s announcement was met with dozens of heartfelt responses from fans and colleagues alike. Emily Maitlis, fellow broadcaster and well-wisher wrote: “Wishing you very warmest thoughts Matt.” Good Morning Britain host Ben Shephard conveyed his support stating: “Good luck with the treatment and will look forward to your dulcet squeaks and yelps back on the airwaves in no time. Sending tons of positive vibes.” Krishnan Guru-Murthy from Channel 4 news wished him a speedy recovery.

Several politicians also extended their best wishes including former Liberal Democrat leader Tim Farron and Ruth Davidson, former leader of the Scottish Conservatives. Television presenters Piers Morgan, Richard Bacon and Alexis Conran joined in wishing him well.

Overwhelmed by the support coming in from nearly 95,000 followers, Forde thanked everyone and expressed that he felt a bit young to be dealing with this health issue but hoped it would aid his recovery. He encouraged others to seek medical help early if they suspect something amiss.

Considered one of the country’s most “in demand” satirists, Forde has lent his voice to the satirical puppet show, Spitting Image, impersonating political heavyweights such as Boris Johnson, Donald Trump and Sir Keir Starmer. He had earlier hosted the political satire show Unspun with Matt Forde on Dave following a sell-out run at the prestigious Cabaret Bar at Edinburgh Festival.
